January 14 (Renewables Now) - Communities developer Avalon Park Group has signed a deal to buy land in Volusia County, Florida, where it plans to build a 300-MW-plus solar power plant with Swiss and Singaporean partners.
The 6,253-acre property is located about 5 miles (8 km) west of the Avalon Park Daytona Beach mixed-use project and is adjacent to the Tiger Bay State Forest. The purpose of the photovoltaic (PV) plant is to power the town to be developed there.
Avalon did not disclose the names of its international partners.
"Utilizing the abundant natural resource of the Sunshine State allows us to create a photovoltaic farm at a scale that will not only support the sustainability of the Avalon Park Daytona Beach Community, but also provides a renewable energy source for the entire region to utilize," said Beat Kahli, CEO of Avalon Park Group.
The company’s additional sustainability plans include building a biomass and agrivoltaic farm and an advanced wetland treatment park.
